Good news for fans of the ethanol alternative isobutanol this month as biofuel producer Gevo is back up and running at its Minnesota plant.
I mentioned Gevo in passing in my article on marine industry research into isobutanol in the July issue of Boating Industry. Gevo and Butamax, a joint venture between BP and DuPont, are the two major players.
Gevo had shut down production last fall after a microbial contamination at its Luverne, Minn., plant. Company officials say the problem has been solved and they are back up and running and will be at full capacity by the end of the year.
Read more about isobutanol and why researchers are so optimistic about it for the marine industry in our July issue.
