At Freedom Boat Club, it’s all about getting more people on the water. The boat club model is one that grows boating and opens it up to people who – for a number of reasons – aren’t in a position to buy a boat.
And getting more folks on the water – especially children – is the best way to hook them on the sport.
“Once they join they get the fever,” said Lisa Almeida, Freedom Boat Club’s director of franchise development and owner of two locations.

Almeida shares the story of two of her members who recently told her they had bought a waterfront home and were planning on buying a boat. It was only because of their boat club experience that they had decided to take the plunge.
Those kinds of stories are what makes owning a franchise so rewarding.
With 75 locations in 15 states, Freedom Boat Club is the nation’s largest members-only boating club, but is still looking to grow. The company has added 20 locations in the last 18 months and expects to double in size in the next few years.
“Anywhere there’s a body of water, people boat and there are 40,000 households around that body of water, the Freedom Boat Club model works,” Almeida said.
Specific target areas include New Jersey, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia Beach, the California Delta and Minnesota’s Lake Minnetonka.
