Winner Boats Past President Peter Lufkin passes away

Peter Lufkin, 87, the past president of Winner Boats, died June 29 in his Pittsburgh-area home.

According to his family, Lufkin developed the first all-fiberglass boat by using a fiberglass stringer system and floor, eliminating the traditional wood systems.

Born March 8, 1925, in Rye, N.Y., Lufkin was a son of Chauncey and Margaret (Wende) Lufkin. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II and was a graduate of Yale University.

Lufkin is survived by his wife of 13 years, Cheryl (Robbins) Lufkin; two sons and daughters-in-law, H. Christopher and Hope Lufkin of Marblehead, Mass., and Tim and Lauren Lufkin of Greenwich, Conn.; a stepson, John Kordowski of Hopewell Township, N.J.; three grandchildren, Brooks, Ellie and Sarah; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Chauncey and Liz Lufkin of Tacoma, Wash., and Dan and Cynthia Lufkin of Washington Depot, Conn.; and his two canine companions, Sencion and Zena and his first Wife, Blakeslee
C. Lufkin, a resident of Nashville, Tenn.
