Miami, Florida – March 7, 2013 – More than 300 people attended the 3rd Annual Miami Yacht & Brokerage Show Kickoff Party to benefit Shake-A-Leg-Miami. The charitable event, which was hosted by the Florida Yacht Brokers Association (FYBA) and the Ft. Lauderdale Mariners Club, raised more than $14,000 for Shake-A-Leg Miami, a nonprofit organization that works with children and adults with physical, developmental and economic challenges in a marine environment, utilizing therapeutic water-sports. The Kickoff Party was held on Feb. 13th at the show’s Gosling’s Dark & Stormy Floating Cocktail Barge on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach.
“We were pleased to see so many people attend what has become one of the most highly anticipated social events of the Yacht & Brokerage Show in Miami Beach,” said Frank De Varona, an FYBA board member who is president and co-founder of Yachting Experts, based in Coconut Grove, Fla. “Both the attendance and amount of money raised this year exceeded last year’s levels. The event offered everyone a chance to unwind before the start of what turned out to be a very successful show.”
This year’s Kickoff Party was supported by title sponsor Essex Credit Corporation; Presenting Sponsors Show Management, AIG, Falvey Yachts, and Sponsors The Triton and Yachting Experts.
“We are grateful to all those who attended this year’s event and helped make it such a resounding success,” said Harry Horgan, president and co-founder of Shake-A-Leg Miami. “Once again, the proceeds from this event will help us in our continuing efforts to continue using the marine environment in working to help improve the health, education and independence of people with disabilities, disadvantaged youth, and their families.”
