FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - IBBI (Independent Boat Builders Incorporated) has awarded GEM Products, of Jacksonville, Florida as the recipient of the second annual John “Walkabout” Sisson Memorial Innovation Award for their new friction hinges, as announced at the recent IBBI meeting in St. Louis, Missouri.
IBBI President, Tom Broy, reports, “We are pleased to be able to continue to honor our dear friend, John Sisson, through our Innovation Award. John’s contributions to IBBI while he was with Malibu Boats and, later, Bryant Boats led to many of our successes so it is truly fitting to be able to honor an innovative supplier to our industry in his memory. Our members voted for a new innovative product during our meeting earlier this month.” IBBI members were able to view entries during an exclusive IBBI trade show and later voted for their choice. “We again had a lot of good entries to choose from,” Broy continued. “GEM’s new hinges are truly innovative and will be a product you will want on your boat. This is just the type of product that John was always searching for.”
Matt Bridgewater, President of GEM Products, said, “GEM is honored to accept the IBBI’s John “Walkabout” Sisson Innovation Award for our new Friction Hinge Series. GEM values our relationship with the IBBI and all of our customer/partners very much. I would like to thank all of the employees at GEM and the engineering teams at our key customers for working with us to develop this new line of hinges. With your help, we can all work together to develop products that improve the boating experience for our mutual customers, the boating public.”
IBBI also honored six other suppliers at the recent purchasing meeting. The award winners were chosen on the basis of a survey that IBBI members completed that rated suppliers in six key categories: product quality, customer service, delivery, technical service, accurate invoicing, and warranty administration.
Composites One was awarded the overall Supplier of the Year distinction. David Scott, South Region Sales Manager, adds, “Composites One is honored to have been named the IBBI Supplier of the Year for the second year in a row. Our partnership with the IBBI has been invaluable, and we appreciate all of the great work from our Composites One teams who have contributed to our achievements by helping our IBBI member customers be successful every day. We look forward to carrying on this strong partnership with the IBBI as we continue to grow our business together in the future.”
Foam Supplies and Lenco Marine were also given Supplier of the Year honors. “IBBI is truly fortunate in that we have a terrific supplier base that continues to exceed our expectations for our members,” says IBBI Controller Jodi Sanders. “These suppliers have worked hard to bring the highest level of service and support to our members. They understand the IBBI mission and are fully committed to making our contracts successful. It is an honor to be able to recognize their dedication by awarding them as a Supplier of the Year.”
IBBI also handed out Outstanding Partner Awards to companies that narrowly missed out on the top awards – Inland Plywood, Metal Moulding, and T-H Marine.
IBBI was formed in 1989 by a group of independent, recreational boat builders. Today, IBBI is the largest marine purchasing cooperative, with 21 members.
