Consumers are feeling better than they have in more than five years, with sentiment reaching its highest mark since January 2008. (link: )
The Bloomberg Consumer Comfort Index hit minus 28.9 for the week ending April 28, up a point from a week earlier and besting the minus 29.2 two weeks ago that had been the best mark since 2008.
Bloomberg said the gain in sentiment is being driven by those at the top end of the income spectrum who are seeing rising home prices and stock values lift their confidence. At the same time, lower-income consumers are starting to feel the pain from the higher payroll tax that started in January.
