Visitors to the Miami International Boat Show won’t have to worry about fighting Super Bowl traffic in 2016 or 2017.
The NFL today awarded the 2016 Super Bowl to Santa Clara and the 2017 Super Bowl to Houston, avoiding the potential of a busy President’s Day weekend in Miami.
While Miami has hosted the Super Bowl 10 times in the past, the NFL has now asked bidding host cities to be ready to hold the game one of three weekends, including President’s Day.
Boat show organizers had expressed concern about attendees competing with the game for hotel rooms, event space and more. No word yet on if Miami will apply for future Super Bowls in 2018 and beyond.
