The Maine Senate unanimously voted this week to ban the use of ethanol in gasoline – sort of.
The catch is that the ban only takes effect if 10 other states with a collective population of at least 30 million ban it. An earlier version of the bill would have required only two other New England states to join the ban.
Earlier this month, Maine’s governor signed into a law a measure that prohibits the sale of any gasoline with more than 10 percent ethanol, such as the controversial E15 blend.
