(Oak Ridge, TN) – Protomet Corporation broke ground to mark the start of the construction for the $6.25 million facility expansion at its corporate location on Larson Dr. in Oak Ridge’s Bethel Valley Commerce Park on June 14, 2013. The expansion will more than double the space for consolidated operations and expanding production to meet ever increasing demand for its products. The new construction will create a manufacturing facility with total square footage over 40,000 square feet, and bring more than 30 non-governmental jobs to the Oak Ridge facility.
Leading the ground breaking was CEO Jeff Bohanan with Tom Beehan, Oak Ridge mayor, Sherry Browder, Chair of the Oak Ridge Economic Partnership and David Wilson, Chair of the Industrial Development Board. Protomet Director of Operations, Andrew Jenkins, and Engineering Director, Matt Reid, also assisted in the ground breaking.
The project architect is Studio Four Design and general contractor is Jenkins & Stiles, with financing provided by Capital Mark and TVA. In a strong show of support, Oak Ridge City Council approved a 5 year development tax abatement on March 25 of this year.
Protomet Corporation is known for its product innovation and precision manufacturing in the marine, medical, homeland security, automotive, housing and other industries. Protomet also takes to market its own recreational boating products under the brand PTM Edge. The expansion is scheduled to begin operation late 2013.
