Stonington, Conn. – The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education and welfare of Coast Guard members and their families, announced that Megayacht News will donate 25% of its Spectacular Superyachts 2014 wall calendar sales to the Foundation. Available for purchase October 14, 2013, the $20 calendar pays homage to some of the biggest, most beautiful megayachts afloat. For each sold, the Foundation will receive a $5 donation to support a multitude of services it provides thousands of Coast Guard members and their families across the country.
“Coasties, as they affectionately call themselves, work everywhere from Florida to Alaska to overseas,” said Diane M. Byrne, founder and editor, Megayacht News. “In their efforts to rescue those in need, enforce maritime law, protect our homeland and preserve the environment, they go out in weather conditions that would make even the saltiest person’s toes curl. The Coast Guard Foundation was selected as the charity this year for their more than 40 years of support to our Coast Guard heroes and their families.”
“We are thrilled to be selected receive a donation from the Megayacht News’ lovely annual Spectacular Superyachts 2014 calendar sales,” said Foundation President Anne B. Brengle. “The Coast Guard Foundation supports families in any way possible and we are happy to accept the donated proceeds and put them to good use to make a real, positive impact on the lives of the brave men and women who protect our homeland, and their families.”
Since 1969 the Coast Guard Foundation has been committed to inspire leadership, learning and a proud legacy of service to our nation by supporting the heroes of the Coast Guard and their families. Education is a key objective to fulfilling this mission; the Foundation’s scholarship program has provided hundreds of higher education grants to enlisted personnel, reservist and their children. To support families who make the ultimate sacrifice, a Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund was established to offer higher education financial support for families of Coast Guard members lost in the line of duty. Everyday Coast Guard members, and their families, benefit from the support of the Coast Guard Foundation through the Shipmate Fund, which provides support on the local level to meet the needs of members and their families including funding recreation, exercise and family-oriented facilities. In addition, the organization offers financial relief to Coast Guard families who have lost possessions in natural disasters.
