Female boating pioneer, promoter dies in Ohio
Joanne Jorgensen Deatrick, one of the early women leaders in boating, died last week in Ohio, the Toledo Blade reported.
Deatrick, 89, and her first husband, Ray Greene, ran Ray Greene and Co., which produced the Rebel, a 16-foot fiberglass sloop model that still is raced throughout the United States. She also founded and was president of the WinYacht Agency, a public relations and advertising agency that specialized in the marine industry.
According to her family, Deatrick was the first female member of the Boating Industry Association’s board of directors, a predecessor of the National Marine Manufacturers Association
