Bryant Boats introduces first ever stern drive surf package

SWEETWATER, Tenn. — Bryant will be introducing their new Surf Edition at MDCE in Orlando this November to a full crowd of marine dealers and industry leaders. “This is the first stern drive ever to deliver a legitimate wake while combining the safety of a V-drive with the performance of a stern drive,” said Ben Dorton, Bryant brand manager and former member of the collegiate national championship wake team. “The new surf package includes, speed control, surf tabs, 1700lbs of ballast and our patented SportPorch. Not only does it give you a “real deal” wake, it puts you further away from the prop than most inboards, and the exhaust is released well out of the way of the surfer,” Dorton added.

The team at Bryant has more experience in this wake market than any other in the stern drive segment. Bryant owner, John Dorton, spent 16 years leading MasterCraft into the wake sports segment. While there, he and his team introduced the X-Series which lead in both wake and surf market share. Dorton and his team were also credited with starting the v-drive revolution as early as 1996. “There are two types of wake consumers; those who like to surf and board, and those who considers themselves a surfer and boarder. Just like the difference between those who like to fish and whose who call themselves fishermen. Bryant is targeting that large portion of the general boating population who like to surf and board, but also want versatility in the boat to be able to cruise comfortably, picnic, camp and enjoy higher speeds. The consumer who wants to board 100% of the time are going to stick with inboards,” John Dorton said. The Bryant Surf editions will range in retail price from the mid-$40 to upper $80 thousand dollar range. “Our price points make surfing much more affordable to that general marine consumer as well,” Dorton added.

Bryant has over 60 dealers worldwide and has recently seen market share increase in the tough stern drive space which places them in the top 10 stern drive brands. “We had a tremendous response at Surf Expo this year. We received a pile of new dealer leads from top inboard dealers who see us as an opportunity to pick up that consumer they are just not getting right now. Our goal is not to replace their inboard sales, but to increase their overall business buy getting more consumers into surfing and boarding,” said Jeff White, Bryant VP sales. “We heard a lot of praise from the board and accessories manufacturers as well. They feel we are truly increasing the towed water sports market with our products versatility and price points,” White added.

  1. I always thought the duo prop stern drives out perform the v-drives especially in the area of bow rise and you can make your wake adjustable with the trim function you don’t have on a v-drive. I always liked Bryant Boats. I am glad to hear about them.
