ABYC announces 2015 standards week and annual meeting

The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) is holding its sixth annual Standards Week in Seattle Washington, January 12-15, 2015. Events, such as Project Technical Committee meetings, ABYC Standards Certification, Exploration into ABYC Basics, and the ABYC Annual Meeting and Cocktail Reception are all part of the week and held at the Hilton Seattle Downtown.

With Standards Week a critical step in the revision of ABYC’s standards, various Project Technical Committees (PTC) will meet every day between 8 am-5 pm to discuss and resolve issues surrounding boating safety. This year, the PTC Meeting topics include electrical, hull performance, electrical components, gas detectors, and control systems. Participation is open to all interested parties.

All are welcome and encouraged to meet ABYC’s staff and hear the organization’s latest news at the Annual Meeting and Cocktail Reception held on January 14 from 7-9 pm. The keynote speaker is George Harris, president of Northwest Marine Trade Association.

Educational opportunities will also be available during the week. ABYC’s Standards Certification will be held January 13-15, 8:30 am-4:30 pm. This class provides students with a comprehensive and focused look at the key ABYC standards and is a must for engineers, installers, compliance inspectors and marine surveyors. Additionally, ABYC will host a hands-on seminar, Exploration into ABYC Basics: Electrical, Systems, and Corrosion, which will be held the afternoon of January 14. This seminar is free for ABYC members.
