NMEA to offer installer training at IBEX, METS

For the first time, the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) will be offering their full-day NMEA 2000 installer training course at two of the world’s largest marine equipment shows-IBEX and METS. The sessions will be held one day prior to the opening of each show.

The NMEA 2000 network course is primarily targeted for the beginner or those who have been installing NMEA 2000 but would like more information, more clarity and an opportunity to share ideas with others who have installed the network. Topics include cables, connectors, specifications, physical planning and documentation, power sources and distribution, voltage drop calculations, data messages (Parameter Group Numbers or PGNs), connecting to other data sources, network setup and troubleshooting. Students will learn the near- and long-term benefits of NMEA 2000-certified equipment, accepted installation practices for NMEA 2000 backbone cable and products, including selection of cable, power application points, and alternatives that make the network work best. They will also gain sufficient working knowledge of NMEA 2000 to successfully troubleshoot problems when they arise and correctly identify/repair/replace the faulty device(s) or network cabling problems.

The Super Session at IBEX-the International Boatbuilders Exhibition & Conference-will be held on Monday, September 14 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, KY. Marine electronics installer and NMEA instructor John Barry will teach the course at IBEX. The Super Session price is $350, which includes lunch. Students who plan to attend the course at IBEX can sign up at www.ibexshow.com.

The course at METS-the Marine Equipment Trade Show-will take place on Monday, November 16 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the RAI Convention Center in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The British Marine Electrical and Electronics Association will lead the METS session. Attendees can book the NMEA 2000 Installer Course online at www.britishmarine.co.uk/whats-on.
