Sailing school founders receive Harken Gold Block Award

FT. MYERS, Fla. — Offshore Sailing School owners Steve and Doris Colgate were awarded the Harken Gold Block Award during an event at the 2008 United States Sailboat Show in Annapolis, Md., earlier this month. The award recognized the sale of their 300th Colgate 26, a training boat that Steve Colgate developed in 1996, according to a statement from Offshore Sailing School.

“They both have lead the way in one of the most important areas of our industry — introducing new sailors in a responsible and positive way through The Offshore Sailing Schools,” said Bill Goggins, commercial manager of Harken Yacht Equipment, of the couple. “Aside from recognizing their accomplishments with their schools, we celebrate a new milestone they reached as boat builders.”

When he received the award, Steve Colgate noted, “Tyler Pierce, our Northern Regional Manager, who has been with Offshore for over 20 years, figured out today that we have used 7,464 Harken blocks on the Colgate 26 sailboats. We are most gratified to receive the 7,465th block in gold.”

The Colgate 26 line is distributed by Offshore Sailing School and built by Precision Boat Works in Palmetto, Fla.
