Phil Keeter discusses new position with Norman-Spencer
MINNEAPOLIS – Phil Keeter, former president of the Marine Retailers Association of the Americas, has joined Norman-Spencer Agency’s Marine Insurance Services Division as vice president of dealer services. In his new role, Keeter will educate dealers on the potential profit centers offered through Norman-Spencer’s dealer programs, Keeter said today in an interview Boating Industry magazine.
Keeter said today’s dealer needs to capitalize on all possible revenue generators within their business, but insurance is often ignored. His role within Norman-Spencer will be to communicate to dealers what he identified as “innovative profit centers” through insurance.
“The opportunity came up because of my close affiliation with dealers over the last 50 years and also because I feel Norman-Spencer is offering dealers some of the most innovative profit centers that are out there,” Keeter said.
Keeter said he hopes to be able to leverage the close relationship he has formed with dealers throughout his career to grow awareness of the profit possibilities with Norman-Spencer’s dealer programs.
He also said Norman-Spencer has always been a great sponsor of the MRAA, so he welcomed the opportunity to return their support by educating dealers on the programs he believes in.
Keeter stepped down from his role as MRAA president late last year to enter retirement. Although he still considers himself retired, Keeter knew simply walking away from the industry where he has worked for 50 years would not be possible.
“Like I said at my retirement party, I am not going away,” he said. “I have been in this industry too long and love it too much to just go away.”
Keeter said his position with Norman-Spencer is not full time, but he will be devoting a significant amount of energy to the role as tasks arise. In fact, Keeter joined Norman-Spencer in Texas today to meet with manufacturers and dealers.
