National Marina Day webinar offers update, tips for success

The National Marine Manufacturers Association and Discover Boating hosted a webinar Wednesday to get the word out about this year’s expanded National Marina Day.

Launched 12 years ago, National Marina Day has been a successful driver of business for marinas. This year’s Welcome to the Water on National Marina Day – to be held June 8 – is the first to be merged with the efforts of Discover Boating to promote the entire marine industry and the boating lifestyle in one nationwide event.

Everyone from dealers to marinas to manufacturers to service providers is being invited to participate this year, said Tom Knighten, Discover Boating events project leader.

National Marina Day will be promoted by Discover Boating on its website, on social media and through its other marketing efforts to a national audience.

This year’s goal is to have 500 events, exposing 10,000 people to the boating lifestyle. A current list of scheduled events is available at NationalMarinaDay.org. That’s where you can also find events to partner with in your area, or volunteer to host a local event.

There are a number of potential activities hosts could consider, including hands-on boat training, on-water safety seminars, boat rides, trailering demos and more. Knighten recommended that events be tailored to the local market, and designed to appeal to boaters and non-boaters alike. Hands-on elements are especially important to get people enthused about boating.

“We want them so excited that they can’t wait to go boating again,” he said.
