What would you say to social media coordinators learning about the yacht industry?
Put simply, learn from what others are doing. Whether you’re a yacht broker, a boat builder or a widget supplier, that’s the best way to tackle the problem. Take a look at your competitors. Take a look at companies that you partner with. Take a look at companies that have nothing to do with boating. The auto industry, for example, does a great job with social media.
A great resource in our industry is Boating Industry’s recent special social media issue, particularly two of the shorter sidebar articles we ran with it: 8 Marine industry companies that get it and 15 Twitter accounts you should follow today.
These are 23 companies, associations and people that are doing a great job reaching out via social media. Find someone on those lists who isn’t a competitor and reach out to them for advice.
Most importantly, just dive in. The best way to learn about social media is to do it. Start as a follower or fan and see what seems to be working, then emulate it with your efforts.
