1. Boat show’s $600 million impact sealed Miami deal

In the end, it was the Miami International Boat Show’s $600 million annual economic impact that made the deal for a new show location necessary, local officials said.

The boat show’s move to the site of the Miami Marine Stadium will also help the city “dust off” its redevelopment plans for the location, city officials said.

2. Boating fatalities down in Alaska, Missouri

Alaska is being recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard for its success in reducing recreational boating fatalities by 80 percent since 1998.

The Coast Guard credited the state’s boating safety program that encourages life jacket use, among other efforts.

In Missouri, the state patrol also reported that there were 15 boating fatalities in the state in 2014, down from 17 in 2013. Drownings decreased from 38 to 29.

3. Continued growth in UK boating market

The British leisure marine market grew 1 percent to 2.92 billion pounds in 2013/14 from 2012/13, according to a report from the British Marine Federation.

That growth came despite an 8.7 percent decrease in business to Europe, the Federation reported.
