1. Video: Miami boat show seeks Florida funding to offset moving costs

The Miami International Boat Show will incur costs of $6 million to relocate the show as it moves to the area surrounding Miami Marine Stadium next year and is asking the state of Florida to help defray those expenses.

Appearing before a Florida Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Tourism, and Economic Development last week, David Dickerson of the National Marine Manufacturers Association requested $1.25 million from the state to help offset those costs, the Miami Herald reported.

“There is no way we’ll see black ink for years,” Dickerson told the committee.

2. RBFF announces ‘Top Family Fishing & Boating’ sweepstakes

The Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation is asking anglers and boaters to pick their favorite spots for fishing and boating.  The top choices will be listed on the 2015 America’s Top 100 Family Fishing and Boating Spots.

3. Biofuels group calls for changes to Renewable Fuel Standard

In a break with others in the renewable fuel industry, the Advanced Biofuels Association is calling for Congress to reform the Renewable Fuel Standard to bring it in line with today’s markets and technology.

While the groups differ on goals, marine industry associations have also called for Congress to change the RFS to limit its reliance on ethanol. The Advanced Biofuels Association statement has been roundly criticized by the ethanol industry.

4. Job situation improves with more openings

By one key measurement, we’re back to normal in the job market, the Pew Research Center reports.

In January, there were 1.8 unemployed people per open position, down from 6.8 in mid-2009 and near pre-recession levels.
