Dozens of people were injured or killed in boating accidents over the long holiday weekend this year, with several fatal accidents across the country, from Minnesota to Ohio to North Carolina to name just a few.

As in past years, alcohol was a major factor in many of the crashes.

2. Dallas boat dealers optimistic heading into show

With the rains this spring and summer helping to bring lakes up to usable levels, boat dealers are hoping for strong season ahead of the DFW Summer Boat Expo, The Dallas Morning News reports.

3. Super yachts can spend more time in Washington under bill

The Washington state House has passed the Marine Tourism Bill, which would allow allows yachts registered as an LLC to stay in state waters 180 days before a 10 percent tax is imposed.

Under current law, the tax would be imposed after the vessel stayed more than 60 days.

4. New Jersey boat tax bill waiting on guv’s signature

A bill that would cap the sales tax on boats at $20,000 is still being considered by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

The bill’s sponsors say it would help boost the boat business in the state, while opponents call it a tax break for the rich.

A Christie spokesman said the bill is still under review.
